Following a decisive generational transition in 2014, Alexander Saverys took the helm of day-to-day operations at CMBleaving the role of president to Marc. The aim of this handover was to preserve family continuity within the company, while at the same time breathing new life into it.

Recently, the family has faced major challenges, notably the pandemic of 2020, which required astute financial strategies, including the reduction of the shareholding in Euronav, in order to navigate through the economic crisis.

The year 2022 revealed a substantial split of the Marc Saverys' family assets shared between his sons fortune of over 1 billion euros. However, the following year saw a fierce battle for control of Euronav, a leading oil tanker company, revealing the competing strategies of Saverys' CMB and John Fredriksen's Famatown, each holding around a quarter of the business. Their dispute is currently under arbitration.
