Youngest son of Roger De Clerck, he began his career in a family business that was plagued by disagreements over asset distribution following restructuring by his father in the late 1980s. The friction between Dominiek and his brothers was particularly marked during controversies concerning the distribution of the family empire.

Dominiek De Clerck's inheritance was the Ter Lembeek group, including of German textile companies and Belgium, as well as Verlipack. These companies were not particularly robust, which led to their being merged into the Beaulieu International Group (BIG), thereby reducing Dominiek's influence within this group, where BIG holds 27% of Ter Lembeek and vice versa for 3.5%.

Legal disputes broke out, with Dominiek accusing, among other things his brothers money laundering. These tensions became entangled in an extensive tax investigation into Beaulieu. Dominiek eventually reached a settlement, paying 10 million euros for himself and his company, a further 15 million to settle disputes with the tax authorities.

In 2020, a conciliation resulted in a rebalancing of the De Clerck family's shareholding in Beaulieu, although details of this new arrangement remain undisclosed to date.
