Weerts Group Family: 75 Years of Expansion, from Transport to Global Logistics Leader

Weerts family

The story of the Weerts company and family began shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, when Hubert Weerts launched a agricultural transport with just one vehicle. The company's activities were centered around the village of Teuven, a small Belgian town nestled on the borders of Flanders, Wallonia and the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the global conflict had an impact on the company, with the requisitioning of the truck by the German occupying forces. After the war, in 1945With the help of his son Joseph Weerts, the company was relaunched.

In the 1960s, under the impetus of Léa Kremers, Joseph's wife, and their sons Pierre and Lambert, development accelerated and the company evolved into a national and international carrier under the name "Transports Weerts & Fils". Expansion continued in the 1980s with the creation of the first industrial warehouse in the Hauts-Sarts area, illustrating the company's transition to an integrated logistics provider.

  • In 1994, following the death of his father Pierre, Yves Weerts, aged 26, became CEO of the group.
  • 1999 sees the development of around 100,000 m² of industrial warehousing in Bierset.
  • In 2001, a further 33,000 m² of industrial warehousing was built at Milmort.
  • In 2005, the Supertransport, division of Carrefouris acquired by Weerts.

2008 was marked by a strategic decision to divest the transportation division and focus on real estate, warehousing and value-added logistics services. In 2017, Weerts took over Audi's logistics activities in Forêt, now with assets estimated at more than 87 million euros.

Weerts Group's international presence:

  • Strong growth in Liège, Belgium
  • Expansions to Luxembourg, Cologne (Germany), Budapest (Hungary) and Bucharest (Romania). Romania

The recent collaboration between Yves Weerts and his cousin Pascal, a former lawyer, led to a joint venture with Ethias, highly beneficial financially. The group is also passionate about motor racing with the creation of the WRT (Weerts Racing Team), justifying the synergy between logistics and motorsport.

The WRT team has nearly 100 employees and offers a full range of racing services to its global customers, including the supply of race cars, dedicated technical teams, technical preparation of vehicles and their transport. WRT also develops and markets its own racing cars. The strength of the Weerts family and the Group is a fortune estimated at over 107 million euros.
